Browser Settings and System Requirements

This guide covers basic browser settings and system requirements necessary for QuestionPoint.

QuestionPoint System Requirements

See the current list of QuestionPoint System Requirements available including Supported Browsers for Patrons, Supported Browsers for Librarians and Qwidget Mobile Browser Support.

Browser Checklist for QuestionPoint

  • We recommend using Chrome or Firefox for QuestionPoint.
  • If you are experiencing ongoing issues with updating or logging in with one browser, try another!
  • Clear the cache on your browser. This step may not always be necessary but is recommended if you are experiencing QuestionPoint issues.
  • If necessary check the browser settings for Firefox or Internet Explorer.

Instructions for Firefox

Turn Off Popup Blocker(s), Turn on Java and Allow Cookies.

  1. In the Tools menu, choose Options.
  2. Under Content, remove the check in the box for Block pop-up windows. (You may have other pop-up blockers running on your computer, such as those included with the Google and Yahoo toolbars. Please disable those as well. Look at the toolbar to find the popups button.)
  3. Under Content, Load images automatically, Enable Javascript and Enable Java should all be checked.
  4. Under Privacy, check Accept cookies from sites. Accept third party cookies does not have to be checked.
  5. Under Advanced, click on the Network tab and make sure that Offline Storage is set to 50 MB. (This is critical!)
  6. Click OK to save changes.

NOTE: If you continue to experience difficulties with QuestionPoint after adjusting your Firefox settings, please switch to using Chrome or Internet Explorer instead.

Instructions for Internet Explorer 8 and newer

Internet Explorer 7 is no longer supported - please either upgrade or switch to a new browser.

In fact, it's best not to use Internet Explorer at all. IE usage has been dropping steadily for years, and fewer and fewer websites bother supporting it any longer. Chrome is recommended.

If you do need to use IE, QuestionPoint has an online guide that includes screenshots of some of the following steps available QuestionPoint Chat: The Guide to IE Browser Setup.

If you are unable to find or access the following settings, you may need to login as an Administrator.

Adjust Basic Internet Settings:

  1. Open a new IE window.
  2. Click on the Gear icon or go to Tools > Internet Options > Settings (under Browsing history).
  3. Make sure that Check for newer versions of cached pages... is every time I visit the webpage.
  4. Ensure Amount of disk space to use is set to 50 MB. [This is critical! Higher settings will affect the speed at which you see and are able to pick up new patrons coming in.]
  5. Click OK to return to the Internet Options dialog.

Turn Off Pop-Up Blocker(s) and Allow Cookies:

  1. In the Internet Options dialog, click on the Privacy tab.
  2. Under Pop-up Blocker, remove the check in the box for Turn on Pop-up Blocker.
  3. You may have other pop-up blockers running on your computer, such as those included with the Google and Yahoo toolbars. Please disable those as well. (Look at the toolbar to find the popups button)
  4. Click on the Advanced button.
  5. Under Advanced Privacy Settings, check Override automatic cookie handling.
  6. Check Always allow session cookies.
  7. Click OK to return to the Internet Options dialog.
