First year biology students at UBC are designing experiments to test the effect of an abiotic factor (e.g. light, temperature, salinity) on a small marine organism. The first report is due Monday, July 9th and requires basic information about the animal (i.e. structure, life cycle, where it lives, what it eats, what eats it, etc.).
This information will mostly be found in books but the students will also be looking for journal articles (especially for the final report due July 19th). For databases, I recommend they search Zoological Record, BIOSIS Previews, Web of Science or even Google Scholar.

The BIOL140 students have their own unique citation style guide. It is located in their lab book, but there is also an online version:
