OCLC informs us that the QuestionPoint software is now compatible with the Java version 6, update 2 (i.e. the one that wasn't working in the summer).
Java has since released Java version 6, update 3. OCLC says that after limitted testing it appears that update 3 also works with QuestionPoint.
So what does this mean for you?
- You don't have to update your Java version, the old versions are still working.
- If you weren't able to remove the new version of Java from any computers at your library, they should now be able to cobrowse again.
- If you want to update your Java version, feel free to do so.
- If you update to the Java version 6 update 3, keep an eye out for any unusual behaviour by the QuestionPoint software. If anything odd does occur, please contact Gordon, Sunni, or me.

Here are instructions for installing Java version 6 update 3, from OCLC:
To install Java 1.6.0_03, follow these steps:
1. Consult your library's IT or technology department to ensure that the
newest version of JRE does not conflict with other programs on your
computer that require Java
2. If you do not already have them, obtain administrator privileges for
your computer. You will need them to install software. If you do not
have administrator privileges, contact your IT or technology department.
3. Open Internet Explorer
4. Go to the Java homepage at http://java.com
5. Click on the green button reading "Free Java Download"
You will see one of two pages:
Page 1: If you see the green button "Verify installation," click it to
confirm that you have the current version of Java installed on your
machine. The next page you receive should say, "Congratulations! You
have the recommended Java installed (Version 6, Update 3)".
At this point, you need to do nothing else.
Page 2. If a version of Java is found that is not Version 6, Update 3,
you will be prompted to install Version 6, Update 3. There are
directions on the page and in the installer to guide you through the
installation process.
