Updated List of Recommended Citation Guides and Websites

AskAway's citation best practices appendix, Recommended Citation Guides and Websites, has recently been refreshed. This resources includes links to citation guides from AskAway institutions and external organizations that have been recommended by service providers and local coordinators. It is reviewed and updated by a small group of local coordinators on a regular basis. We are greatly appreciative of the time and expertise contributed by Shannon Moist (Douglas College), Nicoletta Romano (University Canada West) and Rebekah Prette (Camosun College) who updated the guide in October 2024.

Updates include:

  • A new section on citing Generative AI

    • Includes guidelines and resources from APA, MLA, and Chicago

  • Information on the recently published 18th edition of Chicago Style, with links to resources

  • A new section with American Sociological Association (ASA) guides

General tips to keep in mind:

  • This resource was developed as an Appendix to AskAway's Citation Best Practices and is intended to complement local citations guides available at each institution

  • You can easily access the Citation Guides and Websites from the Service Providers homepage (see "Helpful Resources")

  • Refer to the AskAway Service Provider FAQs for an explanation of how to add bold/italic text in chat, which can be helpful when explaining parts of a citation to a patron

  • Remember to tag the chat session with the Citation tag (see FAQs for guidance on how to apply tags)

  • Sometimes useful citation examples come from institutions that are not the student's own - and that's perfectly fine, share away!
